About Us Grandpa John and Grandma Emily started their love of Music in Michigan and in 1951 brought that love and knowledge to Modesto, CA. CK and Robert continued the expansion when they opened stores in Sacramento,Stockton and Merced. John's grandson John Gottschalk continued the legacy when he became manager of Gottschalk Music Center in Stockton He then transferred to the Merced location. Where he managed the band instrument store for his father and uncle. He also was the piano manager for his landlord Wade Muncy of Muncy Music. In 1993 Bonnie Whitaker came to work for John and Wade. John and Bonnie became very good friends and in 1994 he proposed. The following Valentines Day they were man and wife. January of that same year they purchased the band instrument portion of the store from his father and uncle. Muncy Music changed hands over the years until June of 2004 at which time John was able to purchase the inventory and expand to a full-line music store. As time went by we expanded to Clovis. So we now have two locations to serve all of Merced County and Clovis/Fresno areas musical needs.
